To make the space work more effectively, we bought a new dining table which is long but narrow. The length creates an illusion of space and we’ve gained extra floor room. We also replaced the sofa with a bench settle, again it’s narrow in shape, providing extra floor space for the children to play. We completed the look with wooden continental cupboards to tidy away the children’s toys. Vintage wooden tables and interesting old chairs are inexpensive and easy to find, and they perfectly complement a traditional painted kitchen. We pulled the scheme together by painting the floor to tone with the walls in farrow and ball skimming stone.
